National Mail Relay Ride

The National Mail Relay Ride Mailbags arriving in Collins St Melbourne, with mounted police escort.  The author is riding the horse on the left with the mailbags to deliver to the Post Office for final franking, having completed the 5200 km from Cooktown.  Over 500 riders participated in this event.

Two thousand of these envelopes were carried in saddle bags to Melbourne on the promotional National Mail Relay Ride.  The special gold seal on the left hand side was from gold carried in a special bag from Charters Towers (Nth. Qld). 

 

These  medallions were struck and presented to the mail carriers.
